Lyall Bay

Lyall Bay Beach is a ‘real’ New Zealand beach, right on Wellington city’s doorstep. With its large sweeping arch and extensive grey sands, it is probably Wellington’s most popular beach. Summertime is obviously the most popular time of year when the you can swim or surf without the wetsuits. But it also seems to be a magnet at any time of year. Lyall Bay is a popular location for windsurfing, boogie boarding, body surfing and of course, swimming. There’s a special children’s play area on the water front and dogs are allowed to run free in a large zoned area at the eastern end of the beach. Parking along most of the beach front is rarely difficult to find.
